And, of course, the dystopian modern day is silent - hence the game’s title. The post-apocalyptic environments are devoid of color when compared to the vivid 1970 surroundings. In contrast, the modern world is run down and bleak. Each little nod to the early 70s serves to further immerse the player. Bright wallpapers, disco balls and groovy retro hairstyles are just some of atmospheric touches House on Fire brings to this title. The Silent Age offers a vibrant 70s atmosphere. On the other hand, every so often you have to stop and think more carefully about the consequences of all your time travelling: how will the changes I make in the past affect the future? The Silent Age Groovy Vibes and an Average Joe The few times I got stuck, it was generally due to that last one: I’d failed to check all possible locations in both time zones and missed a crucial object. Missing an item you need? Check the other time zone. Door blocking your way? Just jump forward in time and it’ll be hanging off its hinges. More often than not, it’s just used to get you past an obstacle. The Silent Age gets a lot of mileage out of Joe’s time device. Easy to 100% and it saves in chapters so you can easily come back if you missed any achievements. The difficulty was just about right for me as far as point and clicks go. An example might be trying to find a way to open a door, and locating the means by time-travelling to locate an object that can overcome this. The game is divided into chapters, with each requiring the player to complete puzzles in order to advance to the next one.
